AI Marketing Agency: How to Tell One From a Rebranded One
Every agency now calling itself an AI marketing agency added the same word to its homepage this year. That part costs nothing, and it changes nothing. What you cannot see from the outside is whether a model sits anywhere near the actual work, or whether it is a slide in the pitch and a line on the invoice. Ask three shortlisted agencies to name the last decision their AI made without a human in the room, and watch what happens next. Two will describe the tool. One will describe the decision. Could you name that decision for the agency you are paying today? Whether yours is the one that actually changed is a different question.

Almost every page that ranks for Figma alternatives answers one question: is there a free one. Fair question, and probably not yours. Your component library lives in one tool, your developers know where to find specs, and your renewal has become a line finance asks about. Which of those three is actually pushing you to look? The lists you have read cannot separate them, because most of them sell a design tool and the rest sell a list of twenty. This decision tends to get made in a spreadsheet, and that is where it goes wrong. What the spreadsheet cannot see is the components, the variants, the tokens, and the plugin that populates your table of legal copy. Those do not export with the file.

You have a proposal on the desk and somewhere in it is a paragraph that decides what you actually bought. Probably you read the price, the deliverable list and the case studies, then skimmed the rest. That is normal, and it is why two providers bidding on the same work can quote the same number and mean two different things by it. One is selling campaigns: a calendar, copy, design, sends. The other is selling the reason those campaigns arrive at all. Can you tell from the document in front of you which one you are talking to? That is answerable this afternoon, and it changes what you ask for before you sign.

The agency sales call has a rhythm you already know: capability deck, case studies, a dashboard with a curve that goes up. Nobody on that call asks what the agency would refuse to run for you. You are about to hire a healthcare marketing agency, which means you are also about to spend real money on campaigns that platform policy limits before anyone writes a word, and the proposal in front of you is silent on which ones those are. Here is what nobody says out loud: healthcare pitches are written for the buyer who will not check. Is the agency on your shortlist prepared to name the tactics it rules out, or will it answer a different question and keep smiling? The gap between those two agencies does not show up in the pitch. It shows up in month four, in a platform review queue and in your review count.

Client Satisfaction Survey Questions: What to Ask and What the Answers Actually Tell You
Your client says the work is fine, then leaves at renewal without warning. What did your last survey actually ask them? It scored your performance, and performance is not what decides a renewal.

Somewhere in your finance review there is a line called design tools, and the number on it has quietly moved twice since you last read it. The first move arrived with a renewal, not with an announcement addressed to you. The second one does not touch the seat price at all, which is exactly why nobody flagged it. If you sign off on software spend, you have already been asked why it went up. So which of those two increases are you actually paying for? The answer is on the vendor's own pricing page, and that page is not the one your team finds first.

You type an SEO specialist salary into Google and the first page hands you seven figures from seven publishers, none of them labelled with the level, the city or the employment type they actually measured. Built In's national average base is $55,503, taken from anonymous community submissions. Glassdoor's is $85,999, self-reported and quoted second-hand, and both are real while neither one is yours. You do not have a salary problem yet, you have a labelling problem, and it costs you money every time you walk into a review without knowing which number describes your job. Which of those figures was measured on work like yours? The answer gets more uncomfortable when a single publisher prices its own Director of SEO below its own SEO Specialist on the same page. Nobody is lying to you, the data is just louder than it is precise, and once you can read the labels the argument about your pay changes shape.

No scheduling vendor will tell you which Calendly restriction you are actually paying for. This list routes by reason instead of by rank. So which one is yours, and what would leaving really cost your team?
